Keeper of the Flame

This five-minute sample sets the tone & manner for the project as a whole. In this clip, footage from the Concord DVD, Poncho at Montreux is interlaced with an interview from UCLA Ethnomusicologist Steve Loza. Poncho pops us into Steamers Cafe where we see the Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band in a totally different setting. Steamers owner Terence Love makes a cameo as does Poncho's sister, Gracie. There's also a bit of archive footage of Poncho with Tito Puente and Celia Cruz. Poncho also gives his thoughts on JazzTimes hailing him as "The New king of Latin Jazz." El Shing-a-ling, One Mint Julip, Days of Wine and Roses and In Sight make up the soundtrack for this clip.
